Short and Sweet

The Ambleside Masters Mile is always a fun race.   A new flat course this year replacing the very fast downhill course they have always used in the past.  No help for a super speedy time then – just hard running!  A small field of 94 runners and just 16 females, including a few runners over the age of 80 – how amazing is that.

Always a little difficult to know how fast to go out but seemed to get it fairly right as I ran hard but not uncomfortable for the whole race. I heard a female breathing behind me as Jeanie overtook me after about 500meters.  I managed to stay with her until about 300 meters to go when she kicked hard and left me behind.  I did catch up a little but finished a couple of seconds behind for 2nd place female in a time of 5.43.  Was nice to actually “race” someone, even for such a short distance as it’s been a long time since I was so close to another runner for a placing.

2nd overall and 1st in my age group (the only one in my age group!) – two gift cards for North Shore Athletics – very happy with that!  Great to run with lots of my VFAC teammates too!  If you’re over 40 you should definitely try this fun race sometime.  Just to see the range of the ages of the people running is great.
