The Inaugural Surrey International World Music Marathon

The Inaugural Surrey International World Music Marathon

Only 1 week after running Poco Trail River run Half Marathon I’m at it again. This time in Surrey. This particular race had cultural music miles featuring live costumed musical performers at various miles. I wasn’t focusing on a new personal best but rather taking this as a nice long run and enjoying each music mile along the way.

The Kintec Run Clinic participants have been training and working hard over the past 16 weeks leading to this day and some of them made it out for a group photo prior to the start of the Marathon. Others were arriving shortly to run the Half. Group leader Jason, who made a new PB last week, was going for another new PB on this day. Did he make it? I’ll post results at the end. I’ll also be posting pictures of some of the live performers.

I was really impressed with the entire event. They had the wellness expo and a live concert during the weekend (which I missed due to work, but maybe next year I’ll take the entire weekend off).  The course itself was nice, I’ve never run in Surrey before so I didn’t know what to expect. There were a couple of sections of the paved path through some trails and nice greenery. The gradual inclines and declines were a nice change of pace from when I ran in Squamish a couple of months back.

The finish is always my favourite part with many people cheering on everyone coming in. The medal was amazing! My neck hurts from wearing it all day. Standard food at the finish which was fine, but I wish they had cookies! They had about 10 beds for post-run massages provided for free by Trailside Physio. And being close to Central City Brew Pub and Central City Mall was the start/finish area which was nice because it was convenient to get my post-run meal.

Great weather, great company, great run….I would definitely do this run again next year. Thanks to Kintec for your support and Special Thanks to all the run clinic participants who participated in this race.

Jason’s new PB is 1:34:55.

That’s it, that’s all, until next time. #SIWMM
