Short and Sweet

The Ambleside Masters Mile was on June 5th – 127 runners hosted by the West Vancouver Community Centre.  This is great race (mainly downhill) that starts just before the West Vancouver Community Day Parade so there are lots of people lining the streets.  It was a beautiful sunny day and it was great to see many older runners – there were 11 over the age of 80!

Now I know the ultra runners are probably thinking “why would you even get out of bed for a mile”.  But it really is such a fun race, great atmosphere and over in a moment.  But don’t be fooled – it’s still tough to run a mile as fast as you can even if like the winner you can do it in  4m24s.

I was delighted to finish 3rd female in a time of 5.29 – my fastest ever mile!  11 seconds behind my super speedy club mate, Karyn Mitchell who was first female.   I also have to mention that my Dad, visiting from the UK also ran and was 2nd in his age group (over 70).

The female course record is held by Leah Pell – 4:41
The male course record is held by the late, great Dave Reed – 4:17

Thanks as always to Kintec, New Balance, Smart wool and West Vancouver Community Centre for another great run – I’ll be back next year!
