10k Run for Rural Medicine – Vancouver

10k Run for Rural Medicine – Vancouver

A low key 10k race organised by the UBC Medical Students to support health care in rural communities.  A nice flat course along by Jericho Beach on a lovely spring morning in Vancouver.

A time of 42.25 brought me in as first female – the first time I have ever won a race so although I wasn’t too happy with my time it was nice to win!  I have Boston in 2 weeks time which is the main focus of my training right now but always good to do a shorter race like a 10k a couple of weeks before so I look at this as good training for Boston.

It will be my first Boston Marathon (and my 3rd marathon) and I am now getting pretty excited as everyone has told me what a great experience it is.  There are a few people from my running club going along so it should be a great weekend.

Did my longest run – a 38k, last week and now into the Taper part of my training.  I got my New Balance 890’s – aka – “The Barringer” courtesy of NB and Kintec about 5 weeks ago and have since done all of my training in them and I have to say they have been great!  Looking forward to testing them out in the marathon as with the new REVlite technology it is also incredibly light (9.7oz) and therefore perfect for racing in too.
